Victoria British Columbia's A-Channel's April 2008 report about REALTOR® lockbox thefts from condo buildings. Thieves can sometimes hack off the lockboxes to remove them to another location where they can spend more time to open them before returning to the condo building with the keys to the front door. Victoria Real Estate Board has developed a solution: A double-walled, hardened-steel container for the electronic lockbox that is to be permanently attached to the building at the expense of the Real Estate Board. Any condo owners interested in having one of the high-security box enclosures installed at no cost can call the Board at 250-385-7766 or visit their website at http://vreb.org
Related Blog Post with my commentary: http://blog.timayres.ca/2008/05/21/screw-the-crd-and-sewage-treatment-move-to-sooke/ Tim Ayres of Royal LePage Coast Capital Realty in Sooke talks about another great reason to move to Sooke, near Victoria BC. Sooke has its own sewage treatment system, and will not be affected by the Capital Regional District's mucking about with sewage treatment for Victoria and surrounding areas. Check out http://blog.timayres.ca for more reasons to move to Sooke.
In response to consumer demands for more security in condominium buildings that are being sold by local REALTORS®, the Board has developed a double-walled hardened steel lockbox enclosure that is to be permanently installed (at the Board's expense) to the condominium building, containing only one lock box which contains one key for the front door. Keys to individual suites would be contained inside the building. It is hoped that this will instill confidence in strata councils in the Victoria areas, as all owners benefit from ease of access for REALTORS® and their clients when it comes time to sell. Any condominium buildings wishing to have the enclosures installed in their buildings can contact the Victoria Real Estate Board at 250-385-7766 or visit their website at http://vreb.org
